National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has mourned the death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno, who perished in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County on Saturday evening.
In an official communication to the National Assembly, Speaker Wetang’ula said the late lawmaker died alongside five other passengers when the aircraft crashed at around 4:45 p.m.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely and tragic demise of the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, the late Hon. Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon, CBS, MP, who alongside five others lost their lives in a helicopter crash,” the Speaker said.
Ng’eno was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament, having first been elected in 2013.
At the time of his death, he chaired the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works and was also a member of the Liaison Committee. In the 12th Parliament, he served in the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.
Speaker Wetang’ula praised Ng’eno’s legislative record, particularly his role in steering housing reforms.
“Under his leadership, the Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works Committee played an instrumental role in the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, 2024 which established a framework for development and access to decent and affordable housing for Kenyans,” he noted.
Born in 1972, Ng’eno attended Mogondo Primary School before joining Maseno National School for his secondary education. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Law from Kyiv TSN University in Ukraine.
He went on to obtain a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Laws degree from Mount Kenya University, and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. In September 2025, he was admitted to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
“On behalf of the House, the Parliamentary Service Commission and on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the late Hon. Ng’eno and the families of the other passengers whose lives we have also lost,” Wetang’ula said.
The Speaker announced that he has appointed a team led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, assisted by Hon. Mugambi Rindikiri and eight other Members of Parliament, to liaise with the family and coordinate support, including funeral arrangements.
“Further details on this matter will be communicated in due course. May their souls rest in eternal peace,” the Speaker added.
The death of the three-term legislator marks a significant loss to Parliament and the people of Emurua Dikirr Constituency.
