Residents across several parts of Nairobi are facing a temporary water shortage following a major pipeline burst, according to Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd.
In a press release issued on Friday, May 1, 2026, the utility company said the interruption was caused by a burst along the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete transmission pipeline at Gigiri, disrupting supply to areas served by the Kabete reservoirs.
Affected neighborhoods include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Upperhill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Nairobi West, Uthiru, Karen, Kibera, and Lang’ata.
Repair works are already underway, with teams from Athi Water Works Development Agency and Nairobi Water deployed to fix the damaged pipeline.
The company said water supply is expected to be restored by 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2.
“Nairobi Water regrets the inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of its customers as efforts are made to restore normal supply,” the company said in the statement.
To mitigate the disruption, residents have been advised to use available water sparingly. The utility also announced that water bowser services are available for priority needs, accessible through a mobile service code.
The interruption highlights ongoing infrastructure challenges in the city’s water supply system, which periodically affect both residential and commercial consumers.
