Uriri MP Mark Nyamita has emerged as the highest-rated legislator in the Nyanza region after topping the latest Infotrak Leadership Performance Index with an approval rating of 71 per cent.
The survey, which assessed the performance of Members of Parliament across the country between January and May 2026, placed Nyamita ahead of all lawmakers from the six Nyanza counties.
Coming in second were Awendo MP John Walter Owino, Suna West MP Peter Masara and Ugenya MP David Ouma Ochieng, who tied with approval ratings of 70 per cent each.
Alego Usonga MP Samuel Orunga completed the top five in the region with an approval rating of 68 per cent.
The report evaluated legislators on a range of indicators, including legislative performance, oversight, representation, public participation and constituency service delivery.
According to Infotrak, the nationwide study covered all 290 constituencies and 1,450 wards, collecting views from 87,286 respondents through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). The survey was conducted in two phases between January and May 2026.
Respondents assessed their elected leaders using a structured questionnaire based on a 10-point Likert scale, with the data later analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
The findings indicate a highly competitive race among Nyanza legislators, with only a three-percentage-point gap separating the region’s top five performers.
Nyamita welcomed the ranking, attributing it to teamwork and his commitment to delivering development projects and responsive leadership in Uriri Constituency.
“We are consistently flying the Migori County flag high through Uriri Constituency,” he said following the release of the survey.
The latest rankings come as elected leaders increasingly face public scrutiny over their performance in Parliament and the delivery of development projects in their constituencies, with constituents placing greater emphasis on accountability, accessibility and effective representation.
