Two suspected phone snatchers believed to have been terrorising Nairobi residents have been arrested in Kawangware following an operation by officers from Muthangari Police Station.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspects were tracked down on Tuesday after police received intelligence on their whereabouts.
The operation led officers to Kawangware, where the two were arrested without incident.
According to the police, the suspects were found in possession of two mobile phones believed to have been stolen from members of the public shortly before their arrest.
The recovered handsets have been secured as exhibits while the suspects remain in police custody awaiting arraignment.
Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network behind the phone-snatching incidents.
Mobile phone theft has become a persistent security concern in Nairobi, with criminals often targeting pedestrians and motorists before escaping on motorcycles through the city’s congested roads.
The National Police Service said it remains committed to dismantling criminal gangs and bringing offenders to justice.
The service also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting suspected criminal activities through the nearest police station or the toll-free emergency numbers 999 and 911, as well as the DCI’s anonymous reporting channels.
