Traffic flow along the Iten–Kabarnet road has been restored following days of disruption caused by a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall, the Kenya National Highways Authority has announced.
In a public notice dated April 29, 2026, KeNHA said the affected section near Kolol is now passable, bringing relief to motorists and transport operators who had been forced to seek alternative routes after the road was blocked.
The agency attributed the earlier disruption to ongoing heavy rains experienced across parts of the country, which led to a landslide that cut off movement along the key transport corridor linking Iten and Kabarnet.
“Traffic flow along the Iten–Kabarnet Road near Kolol has been restored,” the authority said, noting that the blockage had significantly affected movement in the area.
Despite the reopening, KeNHA cautioned motorists to exercise vigilance while using the route, warning that conditions could remain unstable due to the prevailing weather.
Drivers have been advised to strictly follow directions issued by police officers and traffic marshals stationed at the site to manage movement and ensure safety.
The authority also expressed appreciation to road users for their patience and cooperation during the period of disruption, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure.
The Iten–Kabarnet road is a critical link in the region, serving both local communities and long-distance transport, and its restoration is expected to ease movement of goods and passengers.
Heavy rainfall has in recent days affected several parts of the country, raising concerns over infrastructure vulnerability and prompting authorities to issue multiple advisories to motorists, especially in landslide-prone areas.
KeNHA said it will continue to monitor the situation and respond as necessary to ensure the safety and accessibility of the road network.
