Three Arrested Over Attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi as Probe Intensifies

Detectives have arrested three suspects in connection with the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at a Kisumu restaurant, as investigators widen a crackdown on those behind the incident.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects were picked up by officers in Kisumu County following investigations into the attack at Java House West End Mall.

The suspects were identified as Carlos Owiti, alias Kalonje, 24, from Nyalenda; Eric Otieno, alias Dude, 39, from Manyatta; and Vincent Odhiambo, alias Tinga, 27, also from Nyalenda.

According to the DCI, the three are in police custody and are being processed for arraignment.

“The suspects are in lawful custody as detectives finalise investigations ahead of their arraignment,” the agency said, adding that more arrests are expected as the probe continues.

The arrests follow a widely reported incident in which Senator Osotsi was attacked while dining at the restaurant in Kisumu.

Witnesses said a group of men confronted the legislator before chaos erupted, forcing other patrons to flee. During the incident, Osotsi was reportedly roughed up and sustained minor injuries, prompting concern over the safety of public officials.

The attack, which occurred in a public setting, sparked outrage among political leaders and the public, with calls for swift investigations and accountability. Security agencies came under pressure to explain how a sitting senator could be targeted in such a manner.
