Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized cannabis worth about Sh8.1 million following a dramatic chase along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers on routine patrol on March 14, 2026 flagged down a Toyota Voxy that had aroused suspicion.
However, the driver defied orders to stop and sped off, triggering a high-speed pursuit.
During the chase, detectives managed to deflate the vehicle’s front tyre, but the driver continued driving toward the Kaptembwa area before abandoning the vehicle near Kaptembwa Police Station and attempting to escape on foot.
Police said the suspect, identified as David Muraya, 35, was quickly cornered and arrested by the pursuing officers.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 13 sacks containing dry plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing about 272 kilograms and valued at approximately Sh8,160,000.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court on March 16, 2026.
The DCI said it will continue intensifying operations to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks across the country.
“We remain committed to pursuing those involved in the illicit drug trade and bringing them to justice,” the agency said in a statement.
