Detectives have foiled a planned robbery targeting a senior military officer in Kitengela, arresting six suspects in an intelligence-led operation that uncovered a criminal network involving both civilians and serving members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects were apprehended on March 23, 2026, after detectives received credible intelligence about an imminent robbery and placed them under surveillance.
According to investigators, the suspects arrived at the target location in two vehicles—a black Toyota Harrier and a Toyota Ractis—with one of the suspects attempting to gain access to the premises.
“A female suspect alighted from the Harrier and approached the main gate under the pretext of seeking access. Detectives, who had already secured the area, moved in and arrested her, prompting the swift interception of both vehicles by backup teams,” the DCI said.

The six suspects were identified as Charles Kiio Matata, a KDF sergeant based at Kahawa Garrison; David Ng’aa Mwangangi, a civilian mechanic attached to KDF; Samuel Agango Odoyo, a service member currently on interdiction; Alex Mumo Kisilu; Richard Mwania Muasya; and Stella Nzuki Mweni.
All six are currently in custody as detectives continue interrogations and processing.
A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of several items believed to have been intended for use in the planned robbery, including KDF jungle uniforms, military boots, a crowbar, a claw hammer, a knife, pliers, and multiple mobile phones.
Investigators say the presence of military gear raises concerns about the possible misuse of official equipment in criminal activities.
The DCI said the scene has since been processed and investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the syndicate’s operations, including potential links to other criminal incidents.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks, noting that all individuals involved in criminal activities—regardless of their status—will be held accountable.
Authorities have also called on members of the public to continue sharing information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
