Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has called for the immediate arrest of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, accusing him of being responsible for the rise of politically linked violence involving criminal gangs.
Speaking on Saturday, Sifuna issued a stern warning to the government following the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.
“The person responsible for goons is PS for Interior Raymond Omollo. We are saying, without fear, PS Omollo must be arrested. If he is not arrested in the next two weeks, we are going to do something that will force the government to put a stop to this nonsense,” Sifuna said.
Senator Godfrey Osotsi was reportedly attacked earlier this week in Kisumu under circumstances that have heightened political tensions.
He was treated at Karen Hospital and discharged on Saturday, according to sources close to his office.
Details surrounding the attack have circulated widely online, with leaders allied to the opposition condemning what they describe as a growing trend of targeted violence against government critics.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were identified as Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje (24), Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga (27), and Eric Otieno alias Dude.
The three were apprehended in Kisumu’s Nyalenda and Manyatta areas following intelligence-led operations and public tip-offs. Authorities say they are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations proceed.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirmed that the suspects were among those captured on CCTV footage during the assault, including one individual seen attacking the senator while he was on the ground.
“We have three suspects who participated in the attack, and the hunt for more is ongoing,” Amin said.
Sifuna linked the incident to what opposition leaders have repeatedly described as the use of “goons” to intimidate dissenting voices, allegations that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also raised in recent days.
The Nairobi senator insisted that accountability must begin at the highest levels of the Interior Ministry, placing responsibility squarely on PS Omollo.
Sifuna’s remarks are likely to intensify political pressure on the government as calls grow for investigations into alleged politically motivated violence across the country.
