Sidian Bank has appointed John Okulo as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective May 1, 2026, in a leadership transition subject to regulatory approval.
Okulo joins the bank from KCB Bank Kenya, where he currently serves as Director of Corporate Banking.
He brings more than 28 years of experience in the banking sector, having worked across regional and international financial institutions.
He will take over from Chege Thumbi, who is set to retire on June 30, 2026, after nine years at the helm of the lender.
Thumbi leaves behind a legacy marked by significant transformation at the mid-tier bank, including its elevation to Tier II status in September 2025.
During his tenure, Sidian Bank also expanded its branch network to 50 outlets and strengthened its presence in trade finance and digital banking.
The appointment of Okulo signals the bank’s intent to sustain its growth trajectory, particularly in corporate banking and digital financial services, areas in which he has built extensive expertise.
Industry observers say the transition comes at a time when mid-sized lenders are increasingly focusing on innovation and diversification to remain competitive in Kenya’s evolving banking landscape.
With Okulo’s experience and Thumbi’s legacy, Sidian Bank is expected to continue positioning itself as a key player in the country’s financial sector.
