A section of the Southern Bypass will be temporarily closed next weekend to facilitate the 2026 Nairobi Marathon, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced.
In a public notice issued on May 3, KeNHA said the closure will affect the stretch between Ole Sereni Interchange and Lang’ata Road Interchange on Sunday, May 10, from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“This road closure is to facilitate the 2026 Nairobi Marathon event,” the authority said.
Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes during the closure period. KeNHA recommended the use of Mombasa Road (A8 Highway) from Ole Sereni Interchange to the Nyayo National Stadium Roundabout to access Lang’ata Road.
The authority also urged drivers to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed along the affected routes to manage traffic and ensure safety.
The temporary closure is expected to affect traffic flow along one of Nairobi’s key bypasses, particularly for motorists heading towards Lang’ata and surrounding areas.
KeNHA said the measure is necessary to allow for the smooth running of the marathon and to ensure the safety of participants and road users.
