President William Ruto has congratulated Monica Juma following her appointment as Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna.
In a statement, the President praised Juma for her distinguished service to the country, noting that her performance in various senior government roles had earned her international recognition.
“Her stellar performance in the appointments bestowed upon her, with the most recent one being as my National Security Advisor and Secretary to the National Security Council, have been recognised beyond our borders,” Ruto said.
Juma has held several high-level positions in government and diplomacy, including serving as Cabinet Secretary and most recently as National Security Advisor to the President.
Ruto said her professionalism, patriotism and dedication to public service had placed her among global leaders.
“Dr Juma has served our country with utmost professionalism and patriotism, given the best to all assignments tasked to her, which in return has earned her a place on the international stage,” he said.
The President also thanked António Guterres for appointing a Kenyan and a woman to the global role, noting the significance of the move during the period the world marks International Women’s Day.
“I thank the Secretary-General of the United Nations for appointing not just a Kenyan but a woman leader, especially in this month when we celebrate women’s achievements,” he said.
Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to working closely with the United Nations and expressed optimism about continued collaboration.
“Kenya is committed to multilateralism, and we look forward to our continued collaboration with the United Nations,” he added.
