Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has been charged with giving false information to a public officer, following a decision by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Tuju was arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts on Thursday, where he faced charges of providing false information contrary to Section 129(a) of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, Tuju allegedly misled law enforcement officers, an act they said “undermines effective policing and public trust.”
The court heard that the alleged offence took place on March 21, 2026, at the Entim Sidai Spa Wellness Sanctuary.
Prosecutors told the court that Tuju reported to Chief Inspector Purity Kobia, the Officer Commanding Station at Karen Police Station, claiming he had been trailed by unknown assailants and later abducted. The prosecution maintains that the claims were false and were intended to prompt official police action.
Tuju pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Maryanne Mwangi and Principal Prosecution Counsel Micheal Mutune.
The court set April 15, 2026, as the date for mention of the case and further directions.
