The Pan African Network Group (PANG) is leading the implementation of a Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Pilot Project in Kakuma Ward, Turkana County, aimed at enhancing digital access and broadening the reach of Kenya’s broadcasting infrastructure.
The initiative, backed by the Universal Service Fund (USF) and managed by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), targets underprivileged areas where commercial broadcasting growth has been restricted due to high infrastructure expenses.
County officials conducted a stakeholder engagement meeting last week with national government administrators, education representatives, local leaders, and community members to evaluate the project’s implementation framework and its potential economic effects.
At the event, Tamima Ibrahim, General Manager of Pan African Network Group (PANG), stated that the pilot represents a major advancement in improving broadcast signal distribution to emerging markets.
“Investing in infrastructure in neglected areas like Turkana provides lasting benefits for the overall broadcasting network.” “Tamima said adding that extending signal coverage is establishing the foundation for better content accessibility, increased advertising expansion, and enhanced engagement in the digital economy.”
She observed that the initiative aims to foster local economic growth by enhancing access to free television, facilitating information exchange, increasing educational opportunities, and strengthening connectivity.
She mentioned that when operational, the DTT pilot is expected to offer residents more than 500 television and radio services, greatly improving access to news, educational materials, government information, and public service programming
