Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho is dead, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, Moses Wetang’ula, has announced.

In an official notification to the House, Wetang’ula said the legislator passed away in the early hours of Sunday, March 29, 2026, at around 1:20 a.m. while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify Members of the National Assembly and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Member for Ol Kalou,” the Speaker said.

Kiaraho, who was serving his third term in Parliament, was first elected during the 2013 General Election and had since established himself as a seasoned lawmaker.

At the time of his death, he was a member of the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee.

The late MP, born on October 2, 1963, was educated at Alliance High School before joining the University of Nairobi, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.

Before entering politics, he built a career as a professional architect and served as Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, contributing to infrastructure and built environment projects.

Wetang’ula described Kiaraho as a committed and diligent leader who served both his constituents and the National Assembly with dedication.

On behalf of Parliament, the Speaker conveyed condolences to the family, friends, and constituents of the late MP and announced the formation of a funeral preparation committee to coordinate burial arrangements.

The committee will be chaired by Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku and deputised by Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau, alongside seven other Members of Parliament.

Further details on funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated later.

Kiaraho’s death creates a vacancy in the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat and marks the loss of a legislator who played a key role in parliamentary work on infrastructure and governance.

He was 62 years old.
