The Nairobi County Government will on Monday officially rename Galana Road in Kilimani to Pheroze Nowrojee Road in honour of the late distinguished lawyer and human rights advocate, Pheroze Nowrojee.
The renaming ceremony is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on May 4, following what the county described as an extensive public consultation with residents and stakeholders in the area.
In a statement ahead of the event, the county said the move is meant to recognise Nowrojee’s lifelong contribution to justice and constitutionalism.
“The action seeks to honour the late lawyer, constitutional scholar, and prominent defender of human rights and the rule of law,” the press release stated.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by members of the Nowrojee family, officials from the county government, Members of the Nairobi County Assembly, and representatives from key organisations including the Law Society of Kenya and Amnesty International Kenya.
The renaming comes two months after a community-led greening initiative along Galana Road, Argwings Kodhek Road and near Kilimani Primary School. The exercise, organised under the Kilimani Community Foundation, brought together local residents, businesses and partners including Shell Kilimani and Ankole Grill.
County officials said Nowrojee’s legacy continues to inspire civic engagement and community-driven initiatives.
“Nowrojee’s legacy of justice, accountability, and active citizenship continues to reflect the important role residents’ associations play in strengthening community voice and promoting better urban living in Nairobi,” the statement added.
