Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno Ole Kisiara has died following a helicopter crash that occurred in Mosop, Nandi County.
It has emerged that the MP was among six people who boarded the chopper after a attendinG a church service.
The crash happened near Chebarus ACK Church in Nandi County.
Born in 1972, Ng’eno rose from humble beginnings marked by poverty and hardship. He often recounted how the 1994 famine wiped out his family’s livelihood and forced them to relocate to Molo. As a young man, he walked long distances transporting charcoal and maize to support his family.
Despite the odds, he pursued education with determination. He attended Mogondo Primary School and later Maseno School for his KCSE before advancing his studies locally and abroad. He earned a BA in International Law from Kyiv, an LLB from Mt. Kenya University and a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Nairobi.
Ng’eno first vied for the Kilgoris parliamentary seat in 2007. He was later elected in 2013 as the MP for the newly created Emurua Dikirr Constituency and successfully defended the seat in 2017 and 2022.
Known for his bold and confrontational style, he was at times arrested over his activism, including during forest evictions and political disputes. Supporters viewed him as a fearless defender of community rights.
In Parliament and at home, he championed road infrastructure, bursaries and school transport initiatives. He was also installed as a Kipsigis elder, cementing his influence both politically and culturally.
His death leaves a significant void in Narok County and the broader Kalenjin community, where he was widely regarded as a determined and grassroots-driven leader.
