The National Police Service has announced temporary traffic disruptions and road closures across Nairobi ahead of the upcoming African Forward Summit 2026, which is scheduled to take place from May 10 to 12.
In a public notice issued on Saturday, the police said the measures are intended to ensure public safety and facilitate smooth management of the high-profile summit, expected to attract regional and international delegates.
According to the notice, motorists should expect traffic disruptions along major roads including Mombasa Road, Langata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, Kiambu Road, as well as within the Nairobi Central Business District.
The police further announced that several roads around the Kenyatta International Convention Centre will be closed to all traffic beginning midnight on Monday, May 11, except for vehicles accredited for the conference.
The affected roads include:
- City Hall Way
- Parliament Road
- Harambee Avenue
- Taifa Road
“The National Police Service is working collaboratively with relevant agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow and a successful event,” the statement said.
Police urged motorists to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations and follow directions issued by officers deployed along affected routes.
“Strict action will be taken against any person found violating traffic rules,” the service warned.
The summit is expected to increase activity within the capital over the three-day period, with authorities advising Nairobi residents to plan their travel early and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
