City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has sharply criticised NTV Kenya over a feature aired on Thursday concerning the late Nick Imudia, accusing the broadcaster of violating the constitutional rights of the deceased’s family.
The programme, aired under NTV’s “Murder Tapes” series, reportedly explored circumstances surrounding Imudia’s death and suggested that he died by suicide following personal challenges.
In a strongly worded statement directed at the Communications Authority of Kenya, Kipkorir claimed the broadcast caused distress to the late businessman’s widow and children, whom he said are minors.
“What NTV Kenya just aired about my client late Nick Imudia is beyond the pale,” Kipkorir said. “It is a gross violation of the constitutional rights of Nick’s widow and children.”
The lawyer stated that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had alerted him about the impending broadcast before it aired.
He said he subsequently contacted senior executives at Nation Media Group, including Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Odundo, Editorial Director Joe Ageyo and Managing Editor James Smart, urging them not to air the feature.

Kipkorir accused the media house of prioritising publicity over the welfare and privacy of the deceased’s family.
“That Nation Media Group chose clicks over the law is truly sad,” he said, further describing the decision to air the programme as “egregious and unforgivable.”
He also faulted the broadcaster for allegedly relying on information from the deceased’s brother without involving the widow or the family’s legal representatives.
The lawyer now says he plans to petition the Communications Authority to revoke NTV’s broadcasting licence over the matter.
NTV had not publicly responded to the allegations by the time of publication.
