Kenya Railways has issued a public warning over fraudulent websites and online platforms impersonating the corporation and purporting to sell tickets for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, Kenya Railways said the fake platforms were designed to deceive customers into making payments through unauthorised channels, exposing them to financial losses and possible compromise of personal information.
The corporation advised passengers seeking to book Madaraka Express tickets to use only its official booking channels.
These include the Kenya Railways online ticketing platform, the USSD service by dialing *639#, and physical booking offices at Madaraka Express Passenger Service stations countrywide.
“Members of the public are advised that bookings for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service should only be made through the following official channels,” Kenya Railways said.
The corporation further clarified that all official communication would only be made through its verified phone contacts, 0709 907 000 and 0709 907 555.
Kenya Railways cautioned members of the public that it would not be liable for losses arising from bookings or calls made through unofficial channels.
The warning comes as transport service providers continue to caution customers against rising cases of online fraud targeting digital payment platforms and travel services.
Passengers have been urged to verify booking platforms before making payments and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unverified sources.
