Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity interruptions in parts of Machakos and Kilifi counties on Sunday, April 12, as the company undertakes routine maintenance of its power network.
The utility said the planned outages are necessary to allow for system upgrades and ensure reliable electricity supply, noting that such interruptions are part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the national grid.
In Machakos County, the blackout will affect areas along Mombasa Road, including Intercounty, Lukenya Village, Daystar University and surrounding customers.
The interruption is scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with residents and businesses advised to plan accordingly.
In Kilifi County, several areas will experience a prolonged outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The affected locations include Kikambala, Mavueni, and the Mombasa Cement area, as well as a wide range of surrounding estates, institutions, and businesses such as Vipingo, Shariani, Barani, Mtwapa, and parts of Malindi Road.
Kenya Power noted that the interruptions are part of essential maintenance works aimed at improving service delivery, replacing aging infrastructure, and connecting new customers to the grid.
Customers in the affected areas have been urged to take necessary precautions, including switching off electrical appliances during the outage period to avoid damage once power is restored.
The announcement comes as the utility continues its countrywide maintenance programme that has seen periodic outages in different counties in recent weeks.
