Kenya Power has condemned the assault of one of its field officers who was attacked while on duty in Isiolo, raising fresh concerns over the safety of frontline staff.
In a statement, the power utility said the employee, a meter reader, sustained serious injuries during the incident and was later airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical treatment.
The company described the attack as unacceptable, warning that such incidents not only endanger staff but also disrupt critical service delivery to customers across the country.
“This is not an isolated incident. Some of our employees have previously been attacked while carrying out their duties. Such criminal acts are unacceptable and undermine service delivery to our customers,” the company said.
Kenya Power confirmed that the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, with investigations expected to get underway.
The utility further called on members of the public to support its workforce, noting that field officers often operate in challenging environments while ensuring electricity services reach homes and businesses.
“We urge our customers and the public to support our workforce as they serve communities across the country,” the statement added.
The incident adds to growing concerns over the safety of utility workers, particularly those involved in field operations such as meter reading, maintenance and fault response, who frequently interact directly with the public in various parts of the country.
