Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced scheduled power interruptions set to affect parts of Nyeri and Meru counties on Friday, April 10, 2026, as part of routine maintenance of the electricity network.
In a notice, the utility company said the planned outages will take place in sections of Nyeri County and Meru County during the day, affecting both residential and commercial customers.
Nyeri County
In Nyeri, electricity supply will be interrupted in Thamaru and Ngunguru areas from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Areas set to be affected include Kahara Village, Karogoto Market, Kahiga Village, Thamaru Village, Ngunguru Secondary School, Kiambachi Village, Ngurumo Dispensary, Ngunguru Coffee Factory, Maingirano Village, as well as nearby Safaricom and Airtel booster stations.
Meru County
In Meru County, outages will affect Kiengu and Kiutini areas between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The interruption will impact a wide range of locations including Nchiru, Kianjai, Ngundune, Akithi, Karumo, Maua Town, Kangeta, Kihutini, Kinaa, Igembe Tea Factory, Kiegoi Tea Factory, Athi, Baranga, Karama, Muthara, KWS Murera, Rhino Camp, Lare, Ruirii, Mutuati, Kiengu, Kandone, Kabachi, Thangareini, Tuuru, Kooju, Dituene, Mariri, Nyambene Girls, Muriri and surrounding areas.
Kenya Power said the planned interruptions are necessary to allow for maintenance and upgrade works aimed at improving service reliability.
The company advised affected customers to plan accordingly and treat all power lines as live during the outage period.
Such scheduled outages are common as the utility undertakes periodic works to stabilise the grid and accommodate growing demand for electricity across the country.
