Kenya has issued an urgent advisory to Kenyans living in or travelling through the Middle East following a sharp escalation of hostilities involving Israel, the United States and Iran.
In a statement released Sunday, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said the advisory follows attacks by Israeli and US forces on Iran on Saturday morning and subsequent retaliatory strikes by Iran targeting Israel and US bases in parts of the Gulf.
“Following attacks by Israeli and US forces on Iran Saturday morning and subsequent retaliatory attacks by Iran on Israel and US bases in some Gulf states, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs wishes to advise Kenyans residing or traveling through the Middle East to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety,” the statement read.
The Ministry specifically urged Kenyans in Iran, Israel, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Iraq, as well as surrounding areas, to exercise heightened caution.
“Exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential movement, especially near high-risk areas such as military facilities and crowded public spaces,” the Ministry advised.
Kenyans were also asked to comply with directives issued by local security authorities, monitor official communications from host governments, and remain aware of possible flight and airspace disruptions.
The government further called on citizens who have not registered with Kenyan embassies in the region to do so immediately.
“Kenyans who have not registered with their local Embassy are advised to do so immediately to enable timely updates from the Missions and assistance during emergencies,” the statement added.
The Ministry said it remains in close contact with Kenya’s diplomatic missions across the region and continues to assess the evolving security situation.
“We will provide further updates and guidance through official platforms,” the Ministry stated.
Emergency contact numbers for Kenyan embassies in Tehran, Tel Aviv, Kuwait City, Muscat, Doha, Riyadh, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai were also provided to facilitate consular assistance for citizens in distress.
The advisory comes amid growing international concern over the potential for wider regional instability following the latest exchange of military strikes.
