Kenya Airways has cancelled its scheduled flights to and from New York after severe winter weather disrupted operations in the United States.
In a customer notice issued Sunday, the airline said heavy snowfall and a blizzard warning had significantly affected operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport, leading airport authorities to suspend flights.
“We wish to inform our customers that due to a Blizzard Warning and severe weather conditions affecting several parts of the United States, including heavy snowfall in New York, operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport have been significantly impacted,” the airline said in the statement.
The cancellations affect flight KQ 002 from Nairobi to New York scheduled for 22 February 2026 and flight KQ 003 from New York to Nairobi scheduled for 23 February 2026.
“For the safety of our customers and crew, the following flights have been cancelled,” the airline stated, adding that the suspension followed directives from airport authorities.
Kenya Airways apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers, saying, “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and understanding.”
The carrier expressed optimism that normal operations would resume once conditions improve.
“We plan to operate KQ 002 on 24 February 2026 and KQ 003 on 25 February 2026 as scheduled once the weather improves and is safe to operate,” the statement read.
The airline emphasised that safety remains its top priority.
“The safety and comfort of our customers and crew remains our highest priority,” it said.
Kenya Airways added that its teams are actively monitoring the situation and engaging with airport stakeholders, and promised to provide further updates directly to affected customers as soon as more information becomes available.
