A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer has been arrested after his girlfriend died under unclear circumstances during a night together at a Kitengela apartment, police have confirmed.
Fredrick Mwazughwa Mwalungwa, based at Kahawa Garrison Defense Forces Constabulary, reportedly took his girlfriend to Mary Hill House apartments in Kitengela on the night of April 26, 2025, around 10 p.m., according to a police report from Kitengela Police Station.
After they engaged in intimate activity, the woman allegedly became unconscious and had difficulties breathing at around 11 p.m.
“The suspect raised an alarm and the caretaker responded,” the police report reads in part.
The officer and the caretaker sought help from a tenant, who used his vehicle to rush the woman to St. Paul’s Hospital Kitengela, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the officer reportedly fled to Kahawa Garrison and reported the matter to the Military Police.
He was detained at the barracks before being handed over to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kitengela.
Police said Mwalungwa has been booked into custody and is assisting in ongoing investigations.
“The first scene at Mary Hill House apartment has been processed,” authorities confirmed.
The case is pending further investigation by DCI officers based in Kitengela.
