Justice Katwa Kigen is among six applicants who have expressed interest in the vacant position of Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced.
In a statement released Wednesday, the JSC confirmed that it received six applications following an advertisement placed on January 27, 2026.
The application window closed on February 17, 2026.
Apart from Justice Katwa, the other applicants are Justice Joseph Kiplagat Sergon, Justice Warsame Abdulahi Mohammed, Justice Francis Kipruto Tuiyott, CS Anne Waceke Kiratu Makori, EBS, and Lilian Wanjiku Wachira.
The Commission said it will conduct a stakeholder engagement forum on March 23, 2026, ahead of the shortlisting process. The venue of the meeting will be communicated in due course.
“The Commission plans to undertake a stakeholder engagement on 23rd March, 2026 ahead of the shortlisting process and thereafter will provide notification of interview dates for shortlisted candidates,” the JSC stated.
The stakeholder forum will pave the way for public participation in the recruitment process, allowing interested parties to submit views before the Commission proceeds with interviews.
The vacancy at the Supreme Court comes at a time when the apex court continues to play a central role in constitutional interpretation and determination of high-profile electoral and governance disputes.
