The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced several temporary job opportunities across the country as it prepares for upcoming voter registration activities.
In a public notice, the Commission invited qualified Kenyans to apply for positions including Voter Registration Clerk, ICT Clerk and Voter Registration Assistant (VRA), saying successful applicants will support the nationwide voter registration exercise.
For the position of Voter Registration Clerk, the IEBC said successful candidates will be responsible for operating biometric registration kits, including KIEMS and VIU tablets, verifying applicants’ eligibility in line with electoral laws and guiding citizens through the voter registration process.
Clerks will also be required to ensure the safe custody of registration equipment and data, transmit daily registration reports to Registration Officers, respond to voter inquiries and uphold the Commission’s code of conduct on data protection and confidentiality.
According to the Commission, applicants for the role must be Kenyan citizens aged 19 years and above, with a minimum KCSE grade of C- (minus) or its equivalent.
Computer literacy and ICT skills are mandatory, while a diploma in ICT, Statistics, Education, Business Administration or a related field will be an added advantage.
The IEBC is also seeking ICT Clerks to provide technical support during the exercise. Their duties will include setting up and configuring KIEMS kits, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, supporting secure transmission and backup of registration data and maintaining ICT logs and incident reports.
Applicants for the ICT Clerk position must hold a certificate or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field from a recognized institution.
They must also be registered voters, demonstrate integrity and neutrality, and be available to work long hours, including weekends and public holidays.
In addition, the Commission has advertised the position of Voter Registration Assistant, who will supervise voter registration clerks at ward level.
VRAs will oversee the movement of KIEMS kits, collate and submit registration data, ensure security of materials and publicize registration activities to help wards meet set targets.
Candidates for the VRA role must be Kenyan citizens and registered voters aged at least 21 years. They must hold a minimum of a diploma in ICT or a related field and be residents of the constituency or ward in which they are applying.
Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required, with knowledge of local languages considered an added advantage.
The Commission emphasized that applicants for all positions must not have held office or stood for election as a candidate or party agent in the last five years.
Successful candidates will be required to present copies of their national identification cards, academic certificates and other relevant testimonials.
They will also undergo training and take an oath of secrecy before deployment.
Interested applicants are expected to submit their applications through the IEBC’s official recruitment channels as indicated in the public notice.
