Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lashed out at President William Ruto and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah following the disruption of his political rally in Kikuyu Town.
Police fired teargas and live ammunition to disperse crowds attending the rally, triggering chaos and forcing supporters to flee. There were no immediate official reports on injuries or arrests.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, Gachagua accused the two leaders of using state machinery to suppress political opposition.
“Mr. William Ruto and Kimani Ichung’wah are the greatest political cowards in the country,” Gachagua said.
“Idea Whose Time Has Come”
Despite the disruption, Gachagua maintained that his political movement would not be deterred, framing the incident as evidence of growing support.
“The use of police, live ammunition and teargas cannot stop an idea whose time has come,” he said
He praised residents of Kikuyu for what he described as resilience in the face of intimidation.
“You have proven you cannot be intimidated… and you made hard decisions about 2027,” he added.
The former deputy president went further to declare that President Ruto would serve only one term, while also taking aim at Ichung’wah.
“Ruto is One-Term and Ichung’wah must follow him to Sugoi,” he said.
The remarks signal escalating political tensions as early alignments and rhetoric around the 2027 general election begin to take shape.
By the time of publication, neither William Ruto nor Kimani Ichung’wah had publicly responded to the accusations.
The incident adds to a series of politically charged confrontations in recent days, raising concerns over the use of security forces in managing political gatherings.
