Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has celebrated the election of Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru as the new Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency, describing the victory as a major milestone for the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
In a statement following the declaration of the results, Gachagua said Waweru’s victory reflected the will of the people and marked the party’s first seat in the National Assembly.
“Congratulations, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for OlKalou Constituency. You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people,” Gachagua said.
He thanked Ol Kalou residents for electing the DCP candidate, saying they had resisted attempts to influence their vote.
“Thank you, my great people, for refusing to sell your birthright and for being wise enough not to fall for the deception of development projects,” he said.
Gachagua also commended voters for safeguarding the electoral process, alleging they remained steadfast despite intimidation by what he termed rogue police officers.
He said Waweru’s election had strengthened his political movement, likening the new MP to an additional “soldier” in his team.
“I have been struggling with 18 soldiers but with great results; now I have 19, things will be much better,” he said.
The former Deputy President described the outcome as a restoration of the community’s dignity and thanked supporters for remaining loyal throughout the campaign.
He singled out campaign leaders Senator John Methu and MP Wanjiku Muhia for what he termed outstanding leadership during the three-month campaign, while also thanking allied senators, MPs, MCAs, volunteers and party supporters for their contribution.
Gachagua said he would tour all five wards in Ol Kalou to personally thank residents for their support.
He urged the newly elected MP to focus on serving the people of Ol Kalou diligently and representing their interests in Parliament.
The Ol Kalou by-election had attracted national attention, with both the Kenya Kwanza and opposition camps treating it as a key political contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.
