Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticised members of the Akorino church for visiting State House, accusing them of siding with President William Ruto amid rising political tensions.
In a strongly worded statement, Gachagua accused the Head of State of targeting his community and using religious leaders to deflect criticism.
“William Ruto, you have now crossed the red line. Destroying our cultural shrine and sending police to beat and humiliate our elders is declaring war on our community,” he said.
Gachagua took issue with the presence of Akorino church members at State House, where they had reportedly gone to pray for the President.
“You have this morning summoned members of the Akorino sect to State House to pray for you and sanitise you,” he said.
He further accused the religious leaders of failing to represent the interests of their community, suggesting they were acting out of self-interest.
“For the Akorino going to State House, please speak for your stomachs, not us. You join the long list of traitors,” he added.
The former deputy president also alleged that money had been set aside to influence the religious leaders, though he did not provide evidence.
“Kshs. 100 million has been prepared for you,” he claimed.
The remarks come amid escalating political tensions between Gachagua and President William Ruto, with recent confrontations involving rallies, security operations and public accusations from opposition leaders.
There was no immediate response from State House or representatives of the Akorino church regarding the claims.
The incident highlights the growing intersection of politics, religion and community leadership as divisions deepen ahead of the 2027 general election.
