Gachagua Assures Aspirants of Free and Fair Nominations Ahead of Olkalou By-Election

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has assured aspirants seeking the party’s ticket in the upcoming Olkalou by-election of a free, fair, and transparent nomination process.

Speaking after a consultative meeting with the aspirants and members of the party’s National Election Board, Gachagua said the DCP had finalized preparations for the nominations slated for May 9, 2026, describing the process as credible and voter-driven.

“This morning, I met with aspirants seeking to fly the DCP party flag in the upcoming Olkalou by-election… we have reviewed and affirmed the process that will guide the party nominations,” he said.

He noted that all aspirants had expressed confidence in the arrangements and committed to upholding integrity throughout the exercise.

“The aspirants have expressed satisfaction with the arrangements in place and have committed to a free, fair, and credible nomination exercise. They have further agreed to respect the outcome and rally behind the eventual winner,” Gachagua stated.

The former Deputy President подчеркнул that the party would not impose a candidate, insisting that the decision rests entirely with the voters of Olkalou.

“There will be no consensus arrangements or boardroom decisions. This choice belongs to the people,” he said.

Gachagua also called on residents to turn out in large numbers during the nominations, noting that the outcome would determine the party’s flag bearer in the July 16, 2026 by-election.

At the same time, he urged the nine aspirants—including Wakili Kiragu Wathuta, Isaac Ndirangu, Kevin Ndungu Waweru, James Waithaka Kariuki, Stephen Kimani Muturi, Peter Mwangi Karanja, Paul Waiganjo, Kamau Ngotho, and Gabriel Gatinu Wambui—to conduct their campaigns peacefully and with decorum.

“Whoever emerges victorious will carry the collective strength and support of the rest,” he said.

The Olkalou by-election is expected to draw significant political interest as parties intensify grassroots mobilization ahead of the vote.
