Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced the closure of what he described as “Kasongo hotels” in Ol Kalou, accusing the establishments of being linked to individuals involved in corruption and the misuse of public resources.

In a statement issued ahead of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, Gachagua said the hotels, which he claimed were opened and operated by President William Ruto’s allies, had been shut and would remain closed.

“I have the duty and moral authority to officially announce that all Kasongo hotels that were opened in Olkalou and operated by his collaborators in hubris and betrayal, and partners in corruption and the looting of public resources are officially shut and shall remain so,” Gachagua said.

He welcomed residents who had been patronising the hotels back, urging them to participate in the electoral process and maintain peace.

“All Olkalou residents who patronized these hotels are now welcome back home, where they belong,” he said.

Gachagua praised Ol Kalou residents for conducting what he described as peaceful campaigns, claiming they had rejected attempts to influence their votes through bribery.

“Many thanks for rejecting bribes to sell your voting rights to betray the very soul of our Nation, the Constitution of Kenya 2010,” he said.

The former Deputy President urged voters to support Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Waweru in the July 16 by-election, while calling for calm during the voting period.

“I urge you to maintain peace and exercise restraint. Do not react to provocation by state-sponsored goons and rogue police officers,” he said.

Gachagua also thanked DCP campaign teams, led by Senator John Methu and Wanjiku Muhia, as well as party supporters and volunteers for their efforts during the campaign period

He commended his party’s candidate for his campaign efforts and expressed confidence ahead of the election outcome.

“I am relaxing in Wamunyoro, waiting to celebrate with the residents of Olkalou on Thursday, 16th July, at 9:00 p.m.,” Gachagua said.

The remarks come amid heightened political activity in Ol Kalou, where rival camps have intensified campaigns ahead of the parliamentary by-election.
