Four suspects accused of involvement in a string of violent robberies and attempted murder incidents in Kuria West Sub-County have been formally charged in court following their arrest earlier this month.
The suspects—Lekishon Simion Nawapa, Marwa Samuel Nyamohanga, Melchizedek Marwa Chacha, and Julius Mwita Juma alias Kehogo—were arrested on March 5, 2026, and later presented before a Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court on March 9 under a miscellaneous application, where custodial orders were granted to allow police to complete investigations.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the four were arraigned again on March 23 for plea taking and charged under three separate case files.
They face a total of seven counts of robbery with violence and two counts of attempted murder.
The prosecution opposed their release on bail, telling the court that investigations are still ongoing, particularly into other unresolved cases believed to be linked to the suspects.
“The prosecution opposed their release on bail, citing ongoing inquiries into other unresolved cases of a similar nature in which the suspects are believed to be involved,” the DCI said in a statement.
The case will be mentioned on March 31, 2026, when the court is expected to hear the bail application and set directions for pre-trial proceedings.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to tackling violent crime and urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could aid investigations.
“DCI remains committed to combating violent crime and safeguarding the public,” the agency said, encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities through its anonymous reporting channels.
