Former Maseno School Principal and Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Chairman Paul Otula has died.
He leaves behind a legacy in both education and sports.
Otula, who also previously served as Principal of Mang’u High School, passed away suddenly on Thursday, according to sources close to his family.
He is said to have collapsed and died at his Nairobi Home.
The cause of death has not yet been made public.
Deputy Head of Public Service Eliud Owalo led tributes, praising Otula’s distinguished service in the education and sports sectors.
“It’s with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the sudden death of long-serving Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Chairman Paul Otula,” Owalo said in a statement.
“Otula had a chequered career as a teacher of no mean repute; Principal of both Mangu High School and Maseno School; and an icon in basketball circles,” he added.
Owalo, who worked closely with Otula through the Eliud Owalo Foundation on basketball initiatives, described him as a committed mentor and visionary leader.
“At this moment of grief, I convey my condolences to his family, and relatives, friends plus both the teaching and basketball fraternity in Kenya. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Owalo said.
Otula was widely respected for nurturing both academic and sporting excellence. Under his leadership, Maseno School became a basketball powerhouse and achieved consistent academic success.
Tributes from former students, colleagues, and sports officials continued to pour in as the nation mourned the educator’s passing. Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
