Former Cabinet Secretary Adan Abdulla Mohamed has been appointed the new Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority for a three-year term, effective May 18, 2026.
The appointment was published in a special issue of the Kenya Gazette dated May 18, 2026 through Gazette Notice No. 7393.
According to the gazette notice, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi Ng’ongo made the appointment under Section 11 (1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury appoints Adan Abdulla Mohamed to be the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from the 18th May, 2026,” the notice reads in part.
Adan Mohamed previously served in several senior government positions, including Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization and Enterprise Development and later Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs.
Before joining government, he also held leadership positions in the private sector, including at Barclays Bank Kenya.
His appointment comes at a time when KRA is under pressure to increase revenue collection amid rising public debt obligations and growing government expenditure demands.
The new KRA boss is expected to spearhead tax administration reforms, improve compliance and enhance revenue mobilisation as the government seeks to stabilize the economy and finance key development programmes.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
