Motorists are set to benefit from lower fuel prices after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced a reduction in pump prices following a revision of Value Added Tax (VAT).
In a statement, EPRA said the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury had reduced VAT on petroleum products from 13 percent to 8 percent through Legal Notice No. 70 dated April 15, 2026, prompting a recalculation of fuel prices for the period between April 16 and May 14, 2026.
As a result, the price of Super Petrol in Nairobi has dropped by KSh9.37 per litre, while Diesel has decreased by KSh10.21 per litre. The price of Kerosene remains unchanged.
Following the review, Super Petrol will now retail at KSh197.60 per litre, Diesel at KSh196.63, and Kerosene at KSh152.78 in Nairobi.
EPRA said the adjustment reflects the application of the revised VAT rate and is aimed at easing the cost burden on consumers.
The regulator also noted that the subsidy on Kerosene has been reduced from KSh108.10 per litre to KSh96.56 per litre following the price changes.
The revised prices take effect from April 16 and will remain in force until May 14, with EPRA publishing detailed breakdowns of the new pricing structure.
The reduction comes a day after a sharp increase in fuel prices, offering partial relief to consumers and businesses affected by rising energy costs.
