Eastern Produce Kenya (EPK) has officially handed over the final batch of Junior Secondary School (JSS) science laboratories in Nandi County, fulfilling its 2025 commitment to promoting STEM education under the Competency-Based Curriculum.
The company has plans to extend the programme into 2026.
The newly established laboratories aim to equip students with practical science skills, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and innovation—essential competencies for pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
By providing hands-on learning experiences, the programme bridges the gap between classroom theory and real-world applications.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Nandi County Director of Education, Mr. Harrison Muriuki, commended EPK’s contribution to education.
“Partnerships between the private sector and education stakeholders are vital, not only in expanding access to quality STEM learning, but also in equipping learners with the skills and competencies needed to seize future opportunities.”
EPK collaborated with curriculum experts, local education leaders, and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure that the laboratories meet Ministry of Education standards and the practical learning needs of students.
The initiative prioritizes rural communities, where access to quality STEM education has often been limited.
To date, EPK has invested over Kshs 33 million, completing 21 science laboratories and 1 IT lab, reflecting its commitment to inclusive education and the social pillar of sustainability within its communities.
