The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested four members of the Gatundu North NG-CDF Committee over allegations of extorting Kes300,000 from a contractor in exchange for approving a pending payment of Kes9.1 million.
Those arrested are Annah Mugure Njoroge, Susan Wanjiru Muchiri, Stephen Waititu Mungai and James Kibe Ngige.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Commission said it received a complaint that the officials had demanded a bribe to authorize payment for completed works at Karure Primary School in Gatundu North Constituency.
“The Commission received a report that the officials had demanded the bribe to authorize payment for completed works at Karure Primary School,” EACC said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the contractor had undertaken three projects at the school, including the construction of a modern kitchen, levelling and landscaping works, and renovation of an administration block and six classrooms.
The works were completed on January 31, 2026, after which the contractor formally requested payment.
However, the four committee members allegedly blocked the payment, citing unresolved issues that were not specified.
According to EACC, on February 23, 2026, the complainant met three of the suspects, who allegedly demanded Kes300,000 “in order not to raise objections to the payment.”
