The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recommended murder charges against five suspects following investigations into the fatal shooting at C & M Lounge in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
In a press statement dated February 24, 2026, the agency confirmed that investigations into the January 25 incident had been concluded and the file forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and further action.
“Following the incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026, at C & M Lounge in Kitengela, Kajiado County, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) promptly initiated a thorough investigation,” the statement read.
According to the DCI, a team led by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Isinya, working alongside Crime Scene Investigations officers, secured and processed the scene. Detectives documented the area and recovered key exhibits, including spent cartridges, which were preserved for forensic analysis.
On January 26, 2026, a team from the National Forensic Laboratory comprising ballistic, imaging and acoustics experts conducted further examination of the scene. Investigators also reviewed and analysed available CCTV footage as part of the probe.
The agency said three firearms surrendered by individuals under investigation were subjected to ballistic examination, and the corresponding forensic reports were received and analysed.
In addition, eleven individuals recorded statements to assist with the inquiry.
Upon conclusion of investigations, the SCCIO Isinya forwarded the duplicate investigation file to the ODPP in Kajiado on February 2, 2026.
The inquiry recommended that five suspects be charged with murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, and attempted murder contrary to Section 220 of the Penal Code, in connection with the deaths of Kevin Sheplunas Maseli and Joseph Kasisi.
“The DCI awaits guidance from the ODPP and will take all necessary actions in accordance with the feedback received,” the statement said.
The Directorate emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains steadfast in its commitment to the pursuit of justice, the upholding of the rule of law, and the protection of every citizen’s right to a fair and impartial investigation, ensuring that all perpetrators of serious crimes are held fully accountable through due process,” the statement added.
