The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into a violent attack on Godfrey Osotsi that occurred at Java House, West End Mall in Kisumu.
In a statement, the DCI condemned the incident, describing it as “brazen and cowardly,” and assured the public that detectives are actively pursuing leads to identify those responsible.
“At this stage, the motive behind the attack has not been established. Our detectives are actively pursuing very crucial leads following a detailed forensic analysis of the available CCTV footage,” the agency said.
The senator, who sustained serious injuries during the attack, is currently receiving treatment at Karen Hospital.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who visited Osotsi at the hospital, described his condition as serious but stable.
“Just left Karen Hospital where our brother Senator Osotsi is being taken care of. He is badly injured but the doctors are taking good care of him. They say he is ‘stable’. I don’t know what to say in these situations honestly. It shouldn’t come to this,” Sifuna said.
The DCI extended its wishes for a quick recovery to the senator and expressed solidarity with his family and the people of Vihiga County.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm, refrain from speculation, and allow investigations to proceed without interference. The DCI is fully committed to getting to the bottom of this matter and will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement added.
The incident has sparked concern over the safety of public officials, with pressure mounting on security agencies to identify and apprehend those behind the attack swiftly.
