A multi-county robbery syndicate accused of terrorizing wines and spirits traders across Kajiado, Kiambu and Nairobi counties has been dismantled following the arrest of key suspects, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced.
According to the DCI, the gang had for months orchestrated a series of robbery-with-violence attacks, leaving traders counting heavy losses and, in some cases, grappling with tragic consequences.
The suspects allegedly targeted wines and spirits outlets, stealing cash and alcoholic stock, vandalizing premises and fleeing in coordinated operations.
Investigations revealed what detectives described as a well-organized criminal enterprise involving surveillance of targeted businesses, carefully timed attacks and a structured network for distributing stolen goods.
The alleged mastermind, Peter Muhia Njenga, was arrested in Nakuru County after weeks of forensic tracking and surveillance. Investigators believe he played a central role in coordinating the group’s activities.

Two other suspects were also apprehended. John Mugo Nderito was arrested in Ruiru and is suspected to have acted as the receiver and distributor of stolen alcoholic consignments. Elisha Njeri Katito, believed to own vehicles used for surveillance, transport and getaway missions, was arrested in Juja.
Detectives say the arrests effectively disrupted the logistical backbone of the operation.
Following the arrests, victims of robbery incidents in Ongata Rongai and Karen have reported to Kikuyu Police Station to identify recovered property. Among the items presented are assorted alcoholic products bearing unique identification marks used by traders.
Meanwhile, forensic experts from the DCI’s Photographic Imaging and Acoustics Unit are analyzing CCTV footage collected from affected outlets. Authorities say the visual and audio evidence will be key in corroborating witness accounts and strengthening the prosecution’s case.
The suspects remain in custody pending processing and arraignment. Police stations handling related cases have been notified to support the ongoing investigations.
The DCI commended members of the public for providing information that aided the probe, reiterating that public cooperation remains vital in combating organized crime.
