A multi-agency security operation in Endebess Sub-County has led to the arrest of six suspected members of a violent criminal gang known locally as the “Kapenguria Six,” bringing relief to residents who have endured months of attacks and intimidation.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects — Juma Wanjala, Samson Kapolon Ewoi, Thomas Esakon Lorongoi, Linus Wekesa Wasilwa, Moses Kisuya Wekesa, and Ezra Simiyu Nyongesa — were arrested following a coordinated sweep across Kaisheber, Nabeki, Cherubai, and neighbouring villages.
According to investigators, the gang has been linked to a series of assaults, robberies, and extortion incidents that left residents living in fear.
The DCI described the operation as a “joint crackdown” involving officers from Endebess Sub-County and other law enforcement units.
During the arrests, officers recovered items believed to be used to instill fear and assert control over communities.
Among the exhibits seized were a military-style jungle belt, a beret, and three pangas, which the DCI said pointed to the gang’s preparedness for violence.
“The recovery of these items confirms the group’s readiness to inflict harm and terror on innocent members of the public,” a DCI officer involved in the operation said.
The suspects are currently being held in police custody as detectives process their case files ahead of arraignment.
The DCI urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with authorities, noting that community intelligence had played a key role in the successful operation.
“We encourage members of the public to report suspicious activity. Your tip could help prevent crime and save lives,” the statement read.
The agency also reminded Kenyans that they can anonymously report crime through the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000, adding: “Usiogope.”
The arrests mark a significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle organised criminal groups operating in Trans Nzoia County.
