Detectives have arrested a suspect and rescued a 17-year-old girl who had been abducted from her home in Malindi Sub-County, in what authorities described as a swift, intelligence-led operation.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Lucky Okoth, was apprehended in the Muyeye area following investigations into the girl’s disappearance reported on April 12.
The minor, whose father is a senior officer at GK Prison Malindi, had initially been reported missing before the case escalated into an abduction after the suspect contacted the family demanding a ransom of KSh200,000.
Police said the suspect issued threats to harm the victim and at one point allowed her to speak to her family, confirming she was being held captive.
Investigators revealed that prior to her disappearance, the girl had been in communication with unknown individuals through two mobile phone numbers, a detail that became central to the probe.
Through forensic analysis and intelligence tracing, detectives were able to track the suspect’s location, leading to his arrest and the safe rescue of the victim.
The girl has since been reunited with her family and taken to a medical facility for examination and care.
DCI said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether other individuals were involved.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reiterating their commitment to ensuring public safety.
