Detectives have arrested three suspected members of a violent criminal gang that has been terrorising residents of Uasin Gishu County, recovering an AK-47 rifle loaded with ammunition during a joint security operation.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects were arrested following a well-coordinated operation involving officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), the Operations Unit at DCI headquarters, and detectives based in Uasin Gishu.
The recovered firearm — an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of ammunition — was found hidden in a thicket within the homestead of one of the suspects, identified as Titus Wainaina Njoroge.
The three suspects, Titus Wainaina Njoroge, Jeremiah Njuguna Kinyanjui, also known as Chikudee, and Patrick Kinuthia Mwangi, are believed to be part of a ruthless gang linked to a series of armed robberies and violent crimes across the county.
According to investigators, the gang is suspected to have carried out a chilling attack on November 22, 2025, during which a family was held hostage at gunpoint, robbed of their motor vehicle and forced to transfer money from their mobile wallets.
Further investigations have also connected the suspects to a robbery with violence that led to the killing of Richard Rotich, a pharmacist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, on January 7, 2026. Detectives said the gang is known to operate using fraudulently acquired identities to evade detection.
Police records indicate that Titus Wainaina Njoroge, also known by the alias Bikos, has a long criminal history.
He has previously been implicated in an attempted robbery case reported at Eldoret Police Station in 2011, a robbery with violence case at Langas Police Station in 2017, and multiple incidents involving escape from lawful custody, including an escape from Eldoret Police Station in 2012 and from Eldoret Court in 2014.
The DCI said the three suspects are currently being processed for arraignment in court as investigations continue.
Detectives are also pursuing other gang members who are still at large.
Members of the public have been urged to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting criminal activity anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI platform, the toll-free number 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
