Directorate of Criminal Investigations has announced the arrest of three suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a firearm following a coordinated overnight police operation in Kirinyaga County.
In a statement, the agency said the operation, carried out at around 1:04 a.m., involved officers from Ngong Police Station, DCI detectives, and police from Mwea–Makutano Police Post.
The team acted on intelligence reports that the suspects had gone into hiding in the Makutano–Ngomongo area.
The suspects were identified as Alex Wanjiku, also known as Aleko, Job Wachira Wanjohi, and Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku, alias Kinyaa.
Authorities believe the trio is linked to a violent robbery incident that occurred in Ngong on March 12, 2025, in which a victim was shot and seriously injured.
“Acting on actionable intelligence, the team zeroed in on the suspects’ hideout and successfully apprehended the three individuals,” the DCI said.
During the arrest, officers recovered a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition from one of the suspects, further strengthening the case against them.
Investigators also seized a red motorcycle, registration number KMGD 970K (TVS make), believed to have been used as a getaway vehicle during the robbery.
Additional items recovered include clothing suspected to have been worn by the suspects on the day of the attack, which police say will serve as key evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The suspects are currently being held at Ngong Police Station as detectives intensify investigations to determine whether they are connected to other criminal activities in the region.
The DCI described the operation as a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat violent crime, noting that it demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration.
Authorities have urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by sharing information that could assist in the fight against crime.
