Britam Holdings has reported a 10 per cent increase in net profit to Sh5.54 billion for the year ended December 31, 2025, supported by strong investment income despite a decline in its core insurance service performance.
The insurer’s profit before tax rose 7.8 per cent to Sh7.9 billion, driven by a 10.9 per cent growth in insurance revenue to Sh41.65 billion, reflecting steady expansion across its underwriting business.
However, Britam’s insurance service result dropped sharply by 31.8 per cent to Sh3.46 billion, weighed down by higher claims in its medical and motor segments as well as increased reinsurance costs.
The Group’s performance was cushioned by net investment income, which rose 4.2 per cent to Sh31.87 billion, boosted by strong fair value gains from its investment portfolio.
Total comprehensive income surged 48.1 per cent to Sh5.59 billion, while total assets grew 16.9 per cent to Sh243.8 billion.
Shareholders’ equity also increased by 19 per cent to Sh35.05 billion, pointing to a strengthened balance sheet.
Despite the improved profitability, the company did not declare a dividend for the year, maintaining the same position as in 2024.
Earnings per share rose 10.1 per cent to Sh2.18.
The results reflect a mixed performance, with investment income playing a key role in sustaining profitability as the insurer navigates rising claims and cost pressures in its core underwriting business.
