Bamburi Cement Plc has announced a strategic leadership transition aimed at accelerating its industrial expansion and sustainability agenda, appointing Mr. Geoffrey Ndugwa as Chief Executive Officer effective 1st April 2026.
Mr. Ndugwa succeeds outgoing CEO Mr. Mohit Kapoor in a move that signals continuity in strategy but a sharper focus on execution as the company scales up its operations to meet rising demand in Kenya’s construction and infrastructure sectors.
The appointment comes as Bamburi Cement intensifies efforts to expand its clinker and cement production capacity, aligning with broader plans to strengthen competitiveness in the regional construction market.
Board Chairman Dr. John Simba said the new CEO brings extensive leadership experience across sub-Saharan Africa, including senior roles within the Holcim Group, where he led major transformation, mergers, and operational efficiency initiatives.
Mr. Ndugwa has previously held top executive positions in South Africa, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, and is expected to steer the company through its next phase of growth and structural expansion.
His leadership coincides with Bamburi Cement’s long-term strategy to enhance clinker self-sufficiency and significantly increase production capacity to support major infrastructure developments across Kenya and the wider region.
The company recently signed a US$250 million Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for a clinkerisation plant in Kwale County, a key project expected to boost output while integrating carbon-reduction technologies under its green growth agenda.
Bamburi Cement plans to more than double its clinker production from 1 million to 2.6 million tonnes and raise cement output from 1.8 million to 4 million tonnes, positioning itself for stronger regional competition.
Industry analysts say the leadership transition reinforces Bamburi’s commitment to long-term industrial growth, with a renewed emphasis on efficiency, sustainability, and large-scale infrastructure readiness.
